ADHD Coach Connect

What’s your #ETSYmotivation?

As I was contemplating what my February newsletter might entail (you know I DID make a goal to stay on top of these this year!) an email popped up entitled #MondayMotivation from ETSY.
For those of you who don’t know ETSY, Etsy is an e-commerce website focused on handmade or vintage items and supplies, as well as unique factory-manufactured items. These items cover a wide range, including art, photography, clothing, jewelry, food, bath and beauty products, quilts, knick-knacks, and toys. I have utilized them for gifts in the past and hence, am on their email list!
Of course the word, “motivation” jumped out at me, so being the ADD coach I am, I toggled over to see what this was all about. Yes, I lost focus! Sound familiar? Even we ADD Coaches do struggle at times.
But when I did read what they were promoting, I was excited and thrilled. It was motivational jewelry and included inspirational sayings that can be kept right in front of our eyes. For an ADD/ADHD coach you can just imagine my excitement. This is one of the strategies so often utilized in helping with reminders, working memory and calming and here they are being advertised as motivational jewelry! Why didn’t I think of that?  Visual reminders are so effective in keeping us balanced and focused.
Here are just a few thoughts from other who successfully use visual reminders:

It is the visual reminder, and it can be as powerful as it is simple. “One of the most notorious downsides of having adult ADHD is being forgetful. I can remind myself to do something every hour.”   (douglascootey.com/2014/04/adhd-visual-reminders.html)
Visual Supports: Desk Reminder- “A few simple visual supports that can be attached to a student’s desk to remind them of appropriate behavior in the classroom.”  (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/173810866838566828/)
“Leaving yourself notes, pill boxes, and any visual cue that grabs your attention can help you make the most of your ADHD memory.”  (https://www.additudemag.com/memory-tricks-adhder-see-adhder-do/)
So now you can take the visual reminder strategy and give gifts or wear it as jewelry to keep you on track! Don’t shy away from a strategy that seems elementary just because it seems elementary.
Visual reminders work and can be utilized in so many ways.
What’s your homemade visual vision, clothing, art, knick knack or toy that can be your #ETSYdailymotivation?
